With hotel pickup and drop-off included, this tour highlights the local food, culture and natural beauty of the Penang region.
After being picked up from your Penang hotel, travel across the island of Penang to the neighboring region of Seberang Perai, on the Malay Peninsula. Your trip takes you over the Penang Bridge, one of the longest bridges in the world, to Nibong Tebal, one of the biggest towns in Seberang Perai. Admire the mangrove palms and forests surrounding Nibong Tebal, which means ‘Dense Palms’ and is home to the peninsula’s traditional clay-pot makers. Watch as the artisans, originally from India, use the potters wheel to produce beautiful clay pots, and see many examples of their artwork on display. Hear the history behind the craft of this small local traditional industry on your guided visit, and watch how the clay is produced from sand and flour. After enjoying a dinner of delectable Malaysian dishes at a local restaurant, your tour continues to the Kerian River for an evening of firefly watching on the water. Enjoy a boat ride on the river, passing different kinds of mangrove trees planted along the riverbank including nipah palms and berembang palms, which attract the fireflies. As you cruise downriver, see the fireflies’ tiny pinpricks of light brighten the darkness on the riverbank. Your tour also takes you to a swiftlets farm near the riverbanks, where specially built structures provide breeding places for tiny swiftlet birds.
